DEMF was the perfect opportunity to finally ask DJ Dijital some of the questions I always wanted to know... What tracks inspired him? What gets him into the studio? And what is his favorite piece of gear?

My life is in boxes, physical boxes in various storage lockers around the city. Here is an update on the new studio space and a brief tour of the layout. It might not look perfect, but definitely a step up from my previous basement.

Wondered what DEMF was like... for me it was a chance to hang out with friends and shoot some video. Having spent most of the event at the various kiosks I took the opportunity to get a quick interview with Aaron Carl. Having just heard his new EP and in the excitement of the event it was a pleasure to catch up. It's all hand held camera action... so my apologies for the motion sickness.

Look out spring, here comes the techno! It's that time of year when 2 of North America's biggest techno festivals happen. DEMF over in Detroit, and Mutek in Montreal. 2 weekends in a row of electronic music... Techno and more! You can already guess who's getting outta Toronto for a couple of road trips. It's time to pack a weekend bag, fill the tank and get loaded on a heavy dose of electronic music. But first... there's this little thing called vLogDeathmatch that we've all got to content with, and I need your mouse clicks for a couple of votes.

Some people are fans of programming their music to the nth degree, but sometimes working that way can bog down the creative process. I like to get in there and let things roll as they do and capture the happy accidents. This episode highlights that technical process and how I've been recording my songs. If you've been having problems capturing your ideas and loops into songs, you might want to peep this episode and give the process a try... as always, there's no right way of making music... just ways that work in your process. Before there were standards and expectations on what a drum machine should be, and shouldn't be... there was the tr-909. Wonder why I'm such a fan. Simplicity, a raw and simple interface... lots of options... and some of the phattest kick drum sounds ever. There was a time when you couldn't make dance music without one. Today we have JoMox, Machinedrum, and Drumazon, but all those would never have come to pass without the magic that is the tr-909.

Every band has its members, and my studio band is no different. In this episode I breakdown the basic format on how I build a track, the gear, and structure. Starting with an idea, and filling out some song / rhythm elements, I turn it into a filled out loop. Basically the seed of a song. If it were a math formula it would look somthing like this: Synth line+bassline+drums+bassline 2+fillersound=loop Does that sound crazy? It makes sense... it really does.

In this video episode I do a follow-up to the previous episode LivePA. I share the process on how I put it together, and speak to the idea of standardizing the process to make it easier to switch between patterns. It's a mix of music, information, and all round fun. In this episode: This weeks episode is as much a surprise to me as you, but I have an explination. I've been able to do very little related to the fanzine; but I did manage to give the site a new look with added functionality. Plus as the proud owner of one of the most distracting studio tool yet, you'll have to see the video to fully understand. I demo a new track, fresh off the disk and jump through hoops to show you just how excited I am about my new little world.

What is techno? Ha,... such an easy question to answer... electronic music right? maybe not. Let me ask the question and give you something to think about. Maybe classical music was the techno music of its time. Ever think of that?

It's just a quick and dirty little video podcast cause Himadri called me up and wouldn't take no for an answer! He came over to take me out for a beer... and check out this new setup I'm trying out. So he gives a quick shout out of a hello, takes me to some crazy club for a beer, and I'm back home within an hour. Only Himadri would be able to do that..... I'll spare you the story.. but check out the new setup.... I'm so hyped!

In this episode: My lack of decent video editing software hasn't stopped me from making my first Podvert. I figured the intro music from my last episode (Lx7#003) was too good to not turn into something, so here's the result: a quick little Podvert / Promo Bumper / Video Intro. Purely, a low budget live recording that I did it in 3 takes. 1 for the drums, 1 for the synths and 1 for the vocals. Feel free to share it out.

In this episode: I've peeled back the curtain to both introduce myself via podcast and share a new track I've been working on. It's my first time working a livePA on camera, and without a tripod it's an all handheld session. Hope you like techno......
