Scholars Teach Values of Sufism to Youth in Kashmir ValleyKashmir, Dec 08: Sufi scholars congregated in Qamarwari area of Srinagar to teach and spread the true meaning of Islam and Sufism. The purpose to hold Sufi congregation called “AETIQAD” was to create awareness about the importance of brotherhood and unity in the valley of Sufi and saints. Various Islamic scholars and intellectuals deliberated upon various teachings, traditions and practices of Sufi saints. Over the years, various Islamic organizations like Sawtul Awliya, Qarwan-e-Islam and Islamic research centre have been organizing such seminars to educate and create awareness about Islam and Sufi culture. A large number of youth present at the event demanded that such conferences should be organized more often. Sufism in Kashmir has roots dating back to Hazrat Bulbul Shah R.A, who is believed to have arrived in Kashmir from Turkistan. However, the Sufi saint who had a profound impact on the lives of people in Kashmir was Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani (R.A), a Persian (Iran) Sufi of the Kubarwi order. He came to Kashmir with his 700 disciples to preach Sufism. The Sufi order has made an important contribution to Kashmiriyat, the ethnic, social and cultural consciousness of the Kashmiri people.
