Fleet Week Sails Into Ft. Lauderdale PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. (April 26, 2010) The guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) , the multi-purpose amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), the littoral combat ship USS Independence (LCS 2), USCGC Key Biscayne (WPB 1339), the German frigate FGS Hessen (F 221), the Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided missile frigate USS Halyburton (FFG 40) and the Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine USS Newport News (SSN 750) arrive at Port Everglades for the start of Navy Week Port Everglades. This is the twentieth navy week in Port Everglades, South Florida's annual celebration of the maritime services. Navy Week Port Everglades is one of 20 Navy Weeks planned across America in 2010. Navy Weeks are designed to show Americans the investment they have made in their Navy and increase awareness in cities that do not have a significant Navy presence.
