Not Other MenRonny and Brian are a gay couple that have been together for over 8 years. When they first met, Ronny had End-Stage Renal Failure, and had to do dialysis to stay alive. At first, doctors would not give him a transplant because he was HIV+. But later on, advances in immunosuppressive medication and HIV medication made the promise of a transplant more of a reality. In 2004, Brian donated a kidney to him, and the transplant was a success. Brian and Ronny's operation was one of only a few hundred HIV transplants done in the world, the second HIV kidney transplant done in San Diego, and the first in San Diego where the donor was the recipient's partner.
