Somewhere between a hotel and a work of art, a capsule of 35m² called “Everland” created by Sabrina Lang and Daniel Baumann, a duo of artists based in Swizerland labelled L/B, has been placed on the roof of the Palais de Tokyo for a year. It is only possible to spend one night in this futuristic-retro room with portholes providing a view across Paris. Night time comes with a unique experience.

Smart Alecks is an adventure featuring the East Side Kids, a motley group of misfits in New York City who rely on sight gags and racial stereotyping for humor. While very funny, the film is also an interesting examination of cultural humor in the forties when racism was acceptable in mainstream entertainment. The backdrop for the comedy is that the Kids discovered an escaped convict and turn him in, earning a large sum of reward money. They then have to make a choice about whether to use the money to help a friend get an operation, or buy new baseball uniforms. Smart Alecks is a simple kid’s gang comedy, but it also is an amusing time capsule.

A historic time capsule for naval training and also a rousing drama, The Navy Way is an entertaining propaganda film from the World War II era. Set and shot in actual naval bases, the film’s authentic portrayal of the discipline and hard work that goes into being a naval officer is interestingly informative. As well as Navy propaganda, the film is the story of a young roughneck who isn’t interested in military service because he bucks authority and wants to make it big as a prize fighter. But while falling in love with the dynamite looker Jean Parker, the young pugilist learns the value of the Navy and serving one’s country. The Navy Way succeeds in every aspect, thanks to a strong cast and real Navy settings and lifestyles.
