Harmony Lane is the captivating biography of songwriter Stephen Foster, who is often referred to as “the father of American music.” Foster is played by the excellent leading man Douglass Montgomery, who does an admiral job – but the true stars of Harmony Lane are the beautiful performances of Foster’s unforgettable songs like “Oh! Susanna” and “Camptown Races.” Foster’s life was tragic, however, so amidst the splendor of the wonderful music and engrossing Civil War time period cinematography, there is always a powerfully artistic undercurrent of pain and sorrow that galvanized so many great artists throughout history. Harmony Lane is a proper tribute to the life and work of such an important American Stephen Foster.

This poignant documentary was made in 15 hours and consists of several thousand still photographs. Each interview subject, aged between 3 and 93, answer five questions. Created for the 2007 15/15 Film Festival, in which each film must be shot and edited in a 15 hour period on the 15th of March. Last Time I Cried came away from the festival with awards for Best Editing, Best Cinematography, and Best Documentary.

One day on the outskirts of the desert, a boy witnesses a woman dumping a body down a well. "Jesus Christ saw a dead body on a path. Surprised, he bit his fingertip and pondered, 'Who did you murder to be murdered in such a mournful way?'" (Kavir Vew) This is not supposed to be a story-telling movie. One day, a teenage boy happens to witness a woman dumping a dead body down a well near his village on the outskirts of the desert. Noticing his presence,the murderess decides to kill him, starting a deadly Marathon. DEAD HEAT has the simplest of plots, so the magic isn't found in the story but the sheer tension and the stark vistas of the desert. Barari's cinematography bathes the dawning desert in a gentle mystery entirely at odds with the frantic chase being played out.
