Footprint Friends attended a Climate Change Conference for Sustainable schools in Hampshire. Several Hampshire schools took part in an inspirational day at the New Forest Council offices, Applewood court, Lyndhurst.

This intensive, interdisciplinary course melds scientific and choreographic inquiry in pursuit of one of the most important topics facing society: climate change due to global warming. This course will include both classroom and laboratory sessions. Our laboratory will be Middletown’s landfill. The landfill, less than 2 miles from campus, dominates the landscape and flood plain of the north end of Middletown. It is a perfect laboratory within which to explore the effects of climate change on both wilderness and urban landscapes using the lenses of science and choreography. For example, the contents of the landfill afford the opportunity to explore the climatic consequences of consumerism, energy use, CO2 and methane production. With an emphasis on the body and its relationship with its environment, participants will have an opportunity to consider the multiple layers of histories, time, and memory layered within the landfill and the continuing impact of this changing environment on the body. ...

Kevin Rudd wants a similar system here - so how are the Europeans faring in this attempt to reduce carbon emissions? VIDEO: The Carbon Trade YOUR SAY: Will carbon trading really work? In Belgium, politicians are debating changes to their Carbon Emissions Scheme, but environmentalists warn that Europe's solution to global warming is turning into a farce. Carbon trading is a process where companies can trade their unused carbon credits for a tidy profit. However this process allows heavy polluters to continue to damage the environment, as they buy up carbon credits from other companies. Climate change activists say EU's climate scheme isn't credible and are worried it could have disastrous impacts around the world if other countries choose to implement it.

Climos is exploring various processes for naturally removing large amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere. The first technology we are investigating is Ocean Iron Fertilization.

Hansen, Gwyn Prins, David Steven, Alex Evans, Shuzo Nishioka, and Ted Nordhaus. We asked them what they would say to the G8 leaders gathering in Hokkaido next week. This video contains their messages. DR. JAMES E. HANSEN: If I could speak with leaders at the G8 meeting, I would tell them that the strategy of trying to identify a target for reducing CO2 emissions is doomed to failure. You need to look at the basic facts, the basic physics of the problem. The most important thing is for them to recognise the key role of coal, and unless we have a moratorium and phase-out of coal — except where the CO2 is captured — then we're not going to be able to solve the problem.
