• Located within Ann Arbor Charter Township and adjacent to the city of Ann Arbor, the community was originally named "Huron Farms" and was established by the Detroit Edison Company in 1913. The company acquired land on both sides of the Huron River and built a series of dams for electric power production. Land owned by the company was also used for agricultural purposes, including farms, dairy cattle, and fruit orchards. But the area was too hilly for farming so it was promoted by company executive as an exclusive residential community for company executives. It is 4 miles to UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN HEALTH and 8 miles to ST JOSEPH MERCY HOSPITAL, 3 miles to Amtrak and 30 miles to Detroit Metro Airport. The newest high school, Skyline is about 1 mile away. Barton Hills, less than 1000 households, has the highest per capita income of any other location in Michigan. Community events include Hayrides, Picnics, and Golf Tournaments. The LA Auto Show in November is a huge event in which the industry gets to unveil their new models, technologies, and exciting concept cars. But things are so bad for the American Auto industry right now that two of of Detroit's big three car companies are basically sitting out for this year's show, a previously unprecedented event. While foreign car manufactures Toyota and BMW are unveiling new, environmentally friendly vehicles, both GM and Chrysler decided to not send any executives or hold any press conferences during the industry showcase. Ford is the only US automaker with a major presence at the show, where they're rolling out the brand new, redesigned Mustang, which they're boasting has a “V-8 with even more horsepower and an even throatier Mustang exhaust sound.” While Japanese and German car companies are working hard to create more fuel efficient vehicles as concerns about gas prices and the environment continue to plague consumers, Ford is boasting about a faster and louder ...

The economy has rocked a lot of major industries in the last few months, but few have been hit quite as hard as the U.S. auto industry. Top executives from Detroit's big three automakers, GM, Ford, and Chrysler, went before Congress recently to plead for a 25 billion dollar bailout loan that is necessary to save the companies, whose sales have plummeted in the last year as consumers are purchasing fewer cars and looking to get more fuel efficient cars from foreign companies when they do buy new vehicles. The executives argued that without the stopgap loan, they would probably fold, which would cause an economic catastrophe as three million of autoworkers would be laid off within the year. Lawmakers on Capitol Hill were not sympathetic, taking the opportunity to vent frustration with the companies. Banking committee chairman Chris Dodd told the executives that their industry was “seeking treatments for wounds that I believe to a large extent were self-inflicted” after years of selling gas ...
