The facility will bring advanced, fuel-saving powertrains to market faster and cheaper by cutting its development process by ten weeks and reduce test procedure time from 24 hours to 20 minutes. Combined with other global development and testing efficiencies already underway, the company will save more than $200 million cumulatively by the end of this year. Leading the pack in powertrain engineering, it will also be where they develop and test the Chevrolet Volt's electric drive unit, motors, power electronics and engine.
