In a bid to make the Kashmiri youth aware of Sufi culture and history, Islamic scholars preached them about the Sufi saints who travelled to Kashmir. At an event held in Srinagar, the intellectuals talked about saints like Mir Syed Ali bin Shahab-ud-Din Hamdani, a Sufi of the Kubrawi order, a poet and a prominent scholar, who was very influential in spreading Islam in Kashmir. He had a major hand in shaping the culture of the Kashmir valley. The scholars believe that due to the moderanization and western culture, Sufi culture is losing its glory and the young generation is not fully aware about the importance of Islam that teaches peace, love and humanity. The Kashmir Valley has been facing unrest and bloodshed for many years as the youth have been misled by people with vested interests. A large number of Sufi shrines can be found across the Kashmir Valley, sending out a message of unity and peace. They reflect the age old culture and values of Sufism that young Kashmiris need to follow. Indeed! Sufism promotes peace, harmony and tolerance among the people.
