Let the Artist Live! was an experimental exhibition in which fifteen American and international artists were invited to live and work at Exit Art. Let the Artist Live! challenged the concept of an art exhibition. and explored ideas of public and private, the collective and the solitary, interrogating ideas of habitat, architecture, design, performance and community. The exhibition provided a public view of the artist's private life. Each artist was given an area in the gallery to create their own living and working environment. All the artists were free to come and go, work, and interact with the public. The artists could collaborate with other artists in residence or work independently. Invited guests, writers, critics, performers, and others participated in special events during the exhibition.

Long before any humans settled on the Cape Peninsula in South Africa baboons were already there. The Cape of Good Hope, 65 km south of Cape Town in South Africa, is the most south-westerly point of the African continent. This spectacularly beautiful piece if land known as the Cape Peninsula looks like a long crooked finger pointing down to the South Pole. It is home to a multitude of plants and animals including the Chacma baboon (Papio Ursinus). This 52 minute documentary, shot over a period of 7 years, tells the story of the last remaining baboons that are locked into a fierce battle for territory with humans who arrived much later. Since the turn of the century these baboons have effectively been cut off from the rest of their brothers and sisters in Africa by a veritable wall of development. Now they have nowhere else to go and as their natural habitat shrinks, frequent clashes occur with their neighbouring primates, humans.

This tiger is named Hercules. He now lives at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Eureka Springs Arkansas. He was a former privately owned 'pet'. His cage was roughly 4'x4'x6'. Basically big enough to stand up and turn around. Due to lack of movement and poor diet Hercules is smaller than he should be and has leg and hip problems. He is playful though as you can well see. This baby was born is a good accredited facility & will never be a part of the exotic pet trade & she will never be part of the performing animal acts. When she was healthy enough she was transferred to live with an orangutan surrogate mother & did not remain under the care of humans any longer than it was needed for her health. In the wild orangutans stay with their mothers for 8 years so this baby orangutan needed an orangutan surrogate mother and got one. Asian Elephants are smaller than African elephants. There are other differences between Asian elephants and African elephants, too. Asian elephants have smaller ears, a different number of toes, the ends of their trunks are different, where they live is different. Only male Asian elephants have tusks unlike African elephants that both the males and the females have tusks. Two things that both kinds of elephants have in common is loss of habitat and being poached for their ivory tusks. Learn about the fastest land mammal, the cheetah, the most petite of the big cats. You may like to watch the cheetah girls on Disney, but these cheetah girls aren’t animated, they are real cheetahs. The cheetah is the most petite of the big cats. The cheetah girls on television can sing and the cheetahs in Africa don’t sing in real life but they do in the video. Cheetahs may not sing, but in common with a bird, more specifically a black bird, they do chirp to call out to each other in the wild (or captivity). A baby cheetah is called a cub. Cheetah cubs are very cute and can be heard chirping for their mothers in the wild. If you would like to see cheetah pictures of cheetah cubs or cheetah adults, you can see some on the website along with moving pictures of cheetahs. The cheetah habitat is naturally in Africa. You can see some slo-mo images of the endangered cheetah running in the video at speeds of up to 70 mph.

Learn about sea lions and elephant seals and why they are called sentinels of the sea by The Marine Mammal Center just north of San Francisco. Sea lions are marine mammals. The sea lion can live on land or in the sea. The California sea lion is featured in the video but not the Stellar sea lion. For those who woonder where do sea lions live- both the California sea lions and steller sea lions can be seen off the coast of California; the steller sea lion population can be seen intermingled with the California sea lion range along the Northern and Southern coasts of California and other parts of the world (although I have only seen them in person in California). If you are wondering where the California sea lion is located along the coast, there are two rookeries that I have seen with an abundance of marine mammals both seals and sea lion habitat at Ano Nuevo between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay and by Santa Barbara. California sea lion food is a diet of fish and more fish- they love mackerel.
