USS Carl Vinson; Relief in Haiti. CARRIBEAN SEA (Jan 15 - Feb 1, 2010) The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson received orders from U.S. Southern Command to render humanitarian assistance to the Caribbean nation of Haiti, following a 7.0 magnitude earthquake Jan. 12. During her 16 days on station, Carl Vinson Sailors delivered 177 tons of food and medical supplies, 87,000 gallons of water and treated 60 patients. The ship and her crew were underway, changing homeports from Norfolk to San Diego when the call for help came through.
