The actress became aware of worldwide humanitarian crises while filming Tomb Raider in Cambodia. She then approached the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the organization leading and co-ordinating international action to protect refugees. Since 2001, Angelina Jolie has been on field missions around the world and met with refugees in more than 20 countries. Most recently, she visited earthquake victims in Haiti to help survivors.

Students attending personal development classes at ChoiceCenter Leadership University collected $16,000 in items to support relief efforts in Haiti. The personal hygiene supplies were collected during a 4-hour Giver Game – a volunteer philanthropy project developed by ChoiceCenter that is the Amazing Race version of charitable giving. The personal hygiene items were sent to Haiti to help improve the quality of life for Haitians impacted by the March earthquake.

It's been three months since a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastating Haiti and leaving 1.3 million people homeless. Since January 12, The American Red Cross has seen an outpouring of support from the American people with $400 million dollars in donations, at least $32 million of that coming from $10 cell phone text donations. Many people are now wondering where that money is going, how their donation helped and how the Haitian people are doing on a daily basis. The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. Since the disastrous earthquake in Haiti, they have delivered emergency response meals to more than 600,000 people and are working towards a goal of feeding two million.

Captain Tom Negus, commander of the Bataan Amphibious Relief Mission, reflected on the Navy/Marine Corps assistance in Haiti since arriving on scene in January. This video, narrated by Captain Negus reflects the overwhelming destruction that the Sailors and Marines witnessed and the sense of humanity and hope by the people who cared for those in need. Four Clemson University civil engineering students will travel to earthquake-ravaged Haiti March 13 to assess needs in Cange, a remote village in the central plateau about a two-hour drive from Port-au-Prince. Engineering students visited Cange twice in 2009 to develop a plan for a water treatment and distribution facility. Students are returning this year to continue the work.

Facing one of the worst natural disasters in the history of the Western hemisphere, American Airlines and American Eagle have supplied 400,000 lbs of relief supplies to Haiti to date. American Airlines was the first airline to resume commercial service to Port Au Prince and was the only airline to work with authorities to help rebuild the airport. Through our AAdvantage program partnership with the American Red Cross, members have generously donated more than 1.5 million dollars to the relief efforts.

CARRIBEAN SEA (Jan 15 - Feb 1, 2010) The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson received orders from U.S. Southern Command to render humanitarian assistance to the Caribbean nation of Haiti, following a 7.0 magnitude earthquake Jan. 12. During her 16 days on station, Carl Vinson Sailors delivered 177 tons of food and medical supplies, 87,000 gallons of water and treated 60 patients. The ship and her crew were underway, changing homeports from Norfolk to San Diego when the call for help came through.
