While testing the 2015 Lexus RC F our guest for the afternoon was radio host Big Tigger from V103 in Atlanta and DJ for the Atlanta Hawks. This was Tigger’s first time on a speedway and he was surely ecstatic. Upon entering the motorsports park he was ushered into a Lexus RC F driven by professional race car driver Shane Donley, and immediately was given a demo on drifting and a burnouts. Go Pro HERO 4 dash footage showed the excitement on Tigger’s face and caught his energy as well. Once Shane was finished, Tigger exited the car emphatically shouting, “Wow, this is going to be a good day!”

To familiarize ourselves with the 2015 Lexus RC F -- built alongside the RC -- we challenged it on the high banks of Atlanta Motor Speedway with Adam Andretti. Performing admirably and by far beyond my expectations, the coupe is elevated by a 467-horsepower 5-liter V8 distributing 389 lb-ft of torque between 4,800 to 5,600 rpm and revs to 7,100 rpm. With a top speed of 170 mph and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds the RC F is absolutely vitalizing. The advanced powerplant is paired with an 8-speed close-ratio Sports Program Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. The super coupe is fluid and stores enough reserved power in each gear when acceleration is required.

Doch der Preis ist gerechtfertigt, denn der Hybridantrieb hat im GS eine neue Leistungsstufe erklommen. Keine anderer Hersteller außer Toyota hat das nicht unkomplizierte Zusammenspiel von Benzin- und Elektromotor derart perfekt ausgetüftelt.

Der japanische Automobilhersteller Lexus hatte sich in Genf ganz auf das Thema Hybrid spezialisiert und ausschließlich Modelle mit dem umweltkompatiblen Antrieb mit in die Ausstellungshallen gebracht. Die vierte Generation der Baureihe kommt mit drei Modellen in den Handel, nämlich mit dem GS 250, dem leistungsstarken Spitzenmodell GS 450h mit Vollhybridantrieb und dem GS 350 AWD. Außerdem wurde noch einmal die Studie LF-LC gezeigt. Auch diese Sportwagenstudie ist mit einem Hybridantrieb ausgestattet, die vorne im Auto montiert ist und die Hinterachse antreibt. Der überarbeitete SUV Lexus RX 450h feiert ebenfalls auf dem Autosalon Genf Weltpremiere. Neben dem größeren Frontgrill zählen auch ein Sport-Fahrmodus und die Option auf das F-Sport-Ausstattungspaket zu den Neuerungen.

Der Internationale Auto Salon Genf ist traditionell die erste europäische Automesse des Jahres. Mercedes präsentiert in Genf voller Stolz den neuen SL 63 AMG. Der japanische Autobauer Toyota stellt auf dem Genfer Autosalon die Serienversion des Yaris Hybrid vor. Lexus war der einzige Hersteller, der ausschließlich Hybridmodelle zeigte, namentlich den GS 450h und den RX 450 Sport. Porsche hat sich mit den Weltpremieren am Genfer See zurückgehalten und nur den neuen Boxster mitgebracht. Seine Premiere feiert der Peugeot 208 auf dem Genfer Autosalon 2012 und schon ab dem Frühjahr soll er mit komplett neuem Design und sparsameren Motoren die Straßen erobern. Endlich ist es soweit: der neue Ford Kuga feiert offiziell Europapremiere. Der französische Autobauer Citroen bietet mit dem Citroen C4 Aircross seinen ersten Kompakt-SUV an. Der koreanische Autobauer Kia bringt die zweite Generation des Kompaktwagens Kia Ceed an den Start. Chevrolet zeigt neben anderen interessanten Modellen den Cruze in der Fließ- und der Stufenheck-Variante.
