Much of the damage has already been repaired, as evidenced by the newly-rebuilt town of Kilika. Old beliefs have started to die, too. Since the fall of the Yevon religion, Machina (technology) is no longer reviled, and the world is undergoing a technological revolution. Groups called sphere hunters roam the land in search of the most powerful sphere artifacts, and one such clan even travels by airship. But among all of these changes, Yuna remains unhappy. It's only when Rikku brings her a troubling vision of an imprisoned man (ostensibly Tidus) that she decides on a course of action: to find out Tidus' fate once and for all, in an attempt to achieve some closure.
