A team of three metalworkers spent 3 hours banging, bashing, welding and straightening the bike's pannier rack and right pannier box. He made it 75 days, through 8 countries and over 16,000kms with countless near-misses and death-defying moments. Today that all changed when a scooter over-taking a heavy vehicle struck Morgan's motorcycle head-on. After clearing 45km of Jakarta's tangled traffic, tragedy struck. A motor scooter traveling at high speed collided with Morgan's BMW bike. The other guy was rushed to hospital for extensive surgery as Morgan, unhurt, tries to pick up the pieces and make sure the other man receives the best of care.
Today Alan and Morgan are treated to the locals' favorite ride. The BMW Motorcycles Owner's Club of Malaysia take them from Kuala Lumpur on a loop to Genting Highlands. The guys are thrilled to be hanging with some of the best riders in the country who really know their way around.
To explore the sophistication of the $91,375 650i Convertible, BMW set up a pleasing 6-hour drive from Los Cabos to La Paz for lunch at the Clubhouse at Costabaja Marina & Golf Course and back. Today Morgan's BMW F800GS went in for its first service since leaving HK on 1 March. Being bike-less left Morgan feeling glum. However his mood was quickly resurrected by the generous offer of Derek van Pelt from Siam Wheels to spend the afternoon tearing around Bangkok on the world's #1 superbike - the BMW S1000RR. Derek, Alan and Siren Films Director Ed Bean joined in the adrenaline-pumping action. We are told the afternoon's footage, captured by award-winning documentary cinematographer Grant Douglas, was spectacular. We will have to wait for the Wheel2Wheel television broadcast in late 2011 to see!
