Nightingale Floor - The premiere performance, a rough first edit.mp4Nightingale Floor - The premiere performance, a rough first edit. "Composer/violinist Sallie Campbell’s new work for Nightingale String Orchestra and improvising soloists has been inspired by the “nightingale floors “ in ancient Japanese castles. Known as uguisubari, these floors “sing” when walked on, making it difficult for burglars to enter a castle by stealth. Not all intruders are evil, however. ..and Sallie’s music follows the journey of a brave man who seeks to release nightingales caged within the castle. Each nightingale symbolises an obstacle to personal freedom. The bird only becomes free once that obstacle is surmounted. The piece makes use of less familiar instruments including nyckelharper, bowed psaltry, hammered dulcimer and five-string violin. Soloists: John Rodgers (violin, guitar, banjo) Robert Davidson (double bass) Sallie Campbell (nyckelharper, baritone bowed psaltry and hammered dulcimer, 5 string violin, mandolins Nightingale String Orchestra" - http://www.restrung.com.au/restrung-performances.php#Nightingale
