Afterwards the time machine takes the students forward in time and stops at different intervals in time to see how the invention progressed and how the invention helped society for the better. The time machine holds 5 students. ATLANTIC OCEAN (Oct. 18, 2010) Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) Airman Daniel Booher, from Bristol, Tenn., guides an F/A-18E Super Hornet into the catapult shuttle aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65). Once the catapult fires, the hold-back breaks free as the shuttle moves rapidly forward, dragging the aircraft by the launch bar. The aircraft accelerates from zero (relative to the carrier deck) to approximately 173 mph in about 2 seconds. Booher, 27, has been trained to constantly look for danger on the flight deck. Aircraft are constantly moving as they are staged for launch and the opportunity for serious injury is ever-present. (U.S. Navy video/Released)

A group of University of Toronto students has just announced that a flight of their human-powered flapping-wing aircraft, The Snowbird, on August 2 may have set an FAI record with a "first ever" flight for its kind. The group believes that after being towed aloft, the aircraft maintained speed and altitude for 19.3 seconds and covered approximately 145 meters while flying at 25.6 km/h. During that time, it was powered solely by its pilot and designer, U of T engineering PhD candidate, Todd Reichert, who estimates he's capable of about 0.3 horsepower. Reichert believes his team's effort represents the first ever sustained flight of a human-powered ornithopter. The FAI ruling committee (the record keepers) is expected to offer its opinion in October. The aircraft sports a 105 foot span and weighs 94 pounds. And, yes, it's always about to break. This was Sun 08/29/2010 take off about 6:30am. We did a flight from Deer Valley Airport KDVT to Glendale Airport KGEU. This video includes the taxi, run up procedure, take off, entering Glendale Airport airspace and entering the pattern, turn to final and touch down. I have three camera's in the plane and you will see it switch from one to the other and after the first landing I show it again from each camera so you end up seeing it three times. After we touched down we did a full stop taxi back and then took off again and did 5 4 more touch and go's there and Glendale and then headed back to Deer Valley. Logged 1.1 hrs and recorded 6 landings.
