Live Wheat Field Sprouts in New York City Rows of golden wheat alongside lanes of gray asphalt...a combine towering over a taxi...kernels transformed into bags of flour instead of bags of popcorn. That was the scene in New York City when the Wheat Foods Council brought a live wheat field, one quarter of an acre in size, full-size combine, functioning mill, bread-baking station and nutrition lab to the South Street Seaport.
