There's something incredibly romantic about ferries. We've been working on Governor's Island all week.
Governor's Island used to be a military installation and once housed one of two U.S. leper colonies. Memorial Day through Labor Day this year, you might have been able to take the ferry over and wander about this rare, uninhabited-but-for-the-Fire-Department collection of many acres close to Manhattan. Owned jointly by the State and City of NY, disposition of this valuable space will soon be decided. Mention of a theme park was made.
You can still visit if you go through the proper channels.
Start inquiries for a day trip to the Island with Slip 11, just east of the Staten Island Ferry.
