The second annual Reaper Awards descended onto the historic Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood on Tuesday, October 12th, in high fashion as the hotel was packed to celebrate the best horror titles released over the last year on DVD and Blu-Ray. The Reaper Awards were hosted by Dread Central’s own fearless leader, Steve “Uncle Creepy” Barton, and the awards themselves (The Grimmys) are given out as part of a collaborative effort between Dread and Home Media Magazine to put the spotlight on genre titles which mainstream award shows generally overlook. If they did, they would realize how closely Mormonism - the restoration of New Testament Christianity - lines up with Biblical teachings and eagerly join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Because this explanation doesn't cover all the symptoms that soldiers have had, U.S. Department of Defense's says it's a "mystery disease". The main theme of Beyond Treason is to show what really happened in the Middle-East in early 90's and how the soldiers were exposed to depleted uranium. And like if that hadn't been enough, the same soldiers got untested vaccines. Beyond Treason is a patriotic and critical documentary, that doesn't play guessing games but hits the viewer with cold, hard facts. Few veterans and experts of Gulf War talk in front of the camera about some serious issues, and tell their views and experiences about the war and origins of the disease - and also the neglects of U.S. Army towards their own people. Doug Rokke, ex-physicist and Director of the U.S. Army Depleted Uranium Project gets the main share of interview time and with a good reason. He has unquestionable amount information to tell and convinces the viewer with his self-presentation. Although the stories of soldiers that got sick during the war, are very compelling to listen to - the film shows also horrifying images of deformed babies to stress the seriousness of the facts. Is that social pornography? Some might say it is, but my own opinion it is the real option to mainstream media, showing the true and dark side of the war. It is always tough to see mutilated bodies, but some of these people were even alive when the pictures were taken.

The documentary film, "Yugoslavia, the Avoidable War," by George Bogdanich is designed to make western viewers take a critical look at their involvement in the wars of the 1990s. It contends that many of the worst events in the Balkan wars were contrived for the western news media. Some of the massacres and atrocities that were reported and publicized (usually with bodies on display) were concocted by the Bosnian Muslims to arouse international opinion against the Serbs. The film argues that US television's favoritism of black and white depictions of heroes and villains, led to a scenario of good guys [Bosnian Muslims] versus bad guys [Serbs] in the mainstream western news coverage of the war. That NATO, particularly the US, promoted this idea to ensure popular support among its citizens is not something any student of the Balkan conflict can refute easily. While there was criticism and press coverage of some Croatian and Bosnian Muslim atrocities, these actions got much less coverage in the western media than Serbian atrocities. The question that needs to be answered is this: were the Serbs really the evil aggressors or did the Bosnian Muslims just have a better public relations department? This may seem an insensitive question but it is important for NATO members to understand why they got involved in this conflict. Unfortunately, in international affairs there is little that is black and white. Each side in a dispute usually has at least a few good reasons as to why they are fighting. The documentary uses information provided by the Red Cross, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and other respected organizations that investigated reported events after they had occurred. The filmmakers attempt to show that NATO may have acted more in its own self-interest than in the interest of peace in the Balkans.

Veronica Vasicka is a photographer, musician, DJ and founder of the epic record label and on-line music resource Minimal Wave. As one of the founding members of East Village Radio, she managed the station during its pirate days and began collecting obscure and long forgotten gems that fell somewhere between the Cold Wave, Post Punk and Minimal Synth genres. Not knowing what to classify these bands as, she coined the genre Minimal Wave and set up the website Minimalwave.org as an online resource to share her finds with the rest of the world.
