Spencer Burke drops in on Mako at his New York City art studio where he is working on what he calls a “hybrid” painting–a collision of heaven and earth. Mako describes how his painting explores what it might look and feel like for heaven to invade earth, just like we–as earthly beings–are invaded by the heavenly, by God. Mako says we are trained NOT to see and experience things. His desire is to draw people to see more. What’s true on canvass is more true in life, and the tension or conflict we feel through art–whether paintings or plays or other media–is good. If we allow ourselves to feel this tension, and to know conflict or sorrow or joy–then art can take us on an amazing adventure. The tension is that we all are consumers of culture because we live in this world. Sometimes the culture or the visual images are disturbing and we might want to divorce ourselves from our cult...

This is a preview scene from my upcoming film, "A School Night," which is to be completed after I finish "Monument. The film is a modernized, musical update of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and stars Laura Cowie, Max Dismore, Eileen Hanley, Cam Jones, Eoin McCarron, myself, Audrey Seiz, and Jaime Wing. During this scene, Emma Needell (Seiz; based on the character of Hermia) runs from the school after her two potentially lovers suddenly and inexplicably start hating her. She meets Martin Bishop (Mako), a character who figures heavily in the updated plot. Some of the imagery and dialogue may only make sense when the film is viewed as a whole. The scene is set to Le Tigre's song "Cry for Everything Bad That's Ever Happened."

Cleo's sister Kim finds her diary and thinks that Cleo and her friends are 'evil mermaids' and she plans to tell everyone. Meanwhile, Lewis goes to Mako Island to find out more about what happened to the girls.
