Tunisia’s political revolution resulted in the overthrow of their president. Popular uprisings and protests are now peppered across Jordan, Yemen, and Algeria…and of course Egypt is on fire, and will very likely force the resignation of the 30-year old reign of Hosni Mubarak. What is the deal with all this Arab anger and rage that has suddenly bubbled to the surface of societies across the Middle East? And why is it suddenly all happening right now? The Avenger tries to answer these questions by explaining the root cause for this Arab frustration, and also assesses which Arab regimes are likely to be most (and least) impacted by this explosion of Arab angst.

Things that happened after I finished recording: • Mubarak spoke (It's a recorded speech). Max Fisher "just breathtakingly oblivious and dishonest." Mubarak doesn't sound like he's leaving. He's trying to align himself with the protesters. Mubarak says he has asked the government to resign—everyone but himself. • Obama had a 30-minute phone call with Mubarak • Obama says there "must" be reform. The bottom line seems to be that the US will continue to back Mubarak for the time being. • The army is reportedly making protest gatherings in Cairo's streets very difficult. It's also 2:30 a.m. there, so things may be starting to wind down for the evening. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak invited Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leaders to Cairo on Wednesday for separate talks. The meetings were called in an effort to resolve the political crisis caused by the opening of the Gaza border by militants last week.
