The LifeForm art created by Hanni B. is quite unique. Most find it evocative and scintillating. Some appear shocked at the erotic depictions but deep inside they are impressed and aroused. The vibrant colors and bold geometric patterns flow fluidly as a 3-dimensional extrusion, rising above the organic curves below. The images evoke visions of supernatural forces, giving rise to god-like powers. But the curves are unmistakably human. Butta Verses, a Bronx-bred rapper who now calls Fort Lauderdale, Florida home, made his debut appearance on De La Soul’s 2004 release The Grind Date spitting back to back with Posdonus on the song “No.” Butta’s name was bestowed upon him by fellow MCs at local ciphers but once his mixtape reached the ears of DJ Maseo from De La Soul, his rhymes started reaching neighborhoods around the world. Maseo signed Butta to his Bear Mountain Entertainment label and he began touring with De La Soul to promote The Grind Date. Butta released several mixtapes while playing over 200 shows on De La Soul’s international tour and began recording with his crew GCD (Glee Club Detention) as well as Seattle’s Vitamin D and Bean One for his Bear Mountain debut, Brand Spankin. The first item he created was a hot rod shifter made of aluminum, and in the shape of a skull. Skulls are a common theme in Ryk’s work, his inspiration coming from a dream he had when he was a child. “One of my earliest boxing memories is sitting on the ring apron at the Repton Boxing Club watching my older brothers train. Sitting there, ringside with my Dad, I couldn't wait for it to be my turn. By the time I was old enough to start training I already knew how to hold my hands in the correct position and throw a number of combinations (my brothers had shown me how and I practiced at every opportunity!). I remember my first fight. I was 11 years old. Sitting in the dressing room, there were about 15 other young boxers getting ready too. Everyone was asking each other, "who are you fighting, "who are you fighting." There was this one big guy sitting in the corner wrapping his hands. "I used to think women who looked past my flaws were really cool women with brains," one of Los Angeles-based graphic artist Donny Miller's pictures broadcasts. "Now I think they're just desperate." And so establishes his tone. Miller's bright, pop illustrations, often of smiling men and women, belie other bon mots like "You are beautiful in every single way, except maybe one or two," "Let's tell each other our darkest secrets. Later, when things go bad, we can use them against each other," and "We think so much alike. Although, I have no idea what you're thinking." His hip wryness earned him a reputation and he parlayed his personal aesthetic into designing logos for companies like Vans, Paul Frank, and Toy Machine. Drew Rouse is a fiercely independent singer-songwriter who has toured extensively throughout North America and now has his eyes on Europe. This acoustic messenger has captured the hearts of audiences from coffee houses to hot spots and festivals from the east coast to the west coast. The Gathering is a blend of musicians and fans that get together at Drew's performances to celebrate and listen to live original music. Christina Christian is most widely recognized for her dazzling performances on American Idol. When her season of American Idol ended, she was one of the four contestants that were signed to a recording contract. Christina always loved to sing and as she was growing up, her musical mentors were Whitney Houston, Bette Midler and Patti LaBelle. Though she sailed into fame with her beautiful voice, family is still her first priority with her son and husband close by her side. Thomas McNamara, otherwise known as Macky, has been making art for as long as he can remember, winning sculpting contests as early as junior high. At 11, his father got him a lead soldier-making kit. That’s when art was introduced and it quickly became evident that it was to be his purpose in life. At 11 he could melt the lead in a small pot, pour it into molds, and paint the little figurines. These soldiers were often given to his parent’s friends. The response was wild - the adults all loved them!! Known for his hits in the 80’s like Because I Love You and Party Your Body, Stevie B has continued his Freestyle influence today with a remake of his popular song, Spring Love and his new album, “This Time.” Stevie B started in South Florida and his songs frequented the Latin nightclubs of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale before hitting the mainstream US music scene. Stevie B was one of the first musicians to perform Freestyle, a popular music style that started in the Latino communities of Miami and New York and is characterized by Latin rhythms, heartthrob lyrics and electronic music. Based in Las Vegas, Carey Hart started his tattoo shop, Hart and Huntington on a whim. His shop's success quickly spread and A&E created a show about him and his tattoo shop called, "Inked." Since then, Hart & Huntington has opened shop in Honolulu, Cabo San Lucas and Orlando. Prior to starting Hart & Huntington, Hart was a professional motocross rider and gained his notoriety with the sport. Over the years, he broke over 63 bones in his body with his daredevil stunts and tricks. Working to make a difference with GOOD Magazine while enjoying the gorgeous weather in sunny San Francisco, bands and revelers converged upon the block of 111 Minna to band together for social awareness. Performances included music from Bedtime for Toys, The Deadly Syndrome, Kid Sister, Honeycut, Richie Panic, Vin Sol, Diplo, A-Trak and Blake Miller. Also performing live Style Wars at the event was House of Diehl. Style Wars is a mash-up of fashion, art and performance where radical fashion is created in minutes, live and on stage. GOOD Magazine presents philanthropic ideas and good causes in an unconventional way, connecting people with a shared interest in helping the world and its people while throwing awesome parties and cool events.
