Here you can see how easy it is to browse the Dish Network DVR program guide and select a program to record. In this case, I opted to record all episodes that will air in the future. The little circle with the "X" in it that you see on some programs indicates a program that was set up to record, but will not be recorded. This is one of my favorite features of the DISH Network DVR. A button on the remote allows you to jump ahead 30 seconds each time it is pressed, so you can zip through commercials quickly and easily. For more info visit: http://www.homesfornh.com/dish

The DISH Network DVR has a number of lock features that are usually used by parents who wish to prevent their children from viewing certain programming. Among the locks available are ratings, channels, pay-per-view, adult content and other locks.

This demonstrates how you can pause live TV. You can pause live TV for a total of an hour, so it gives you a good amount of time to go get snack or answer a phone call or something. For more info visit: http://www.homesfornh.com/dish

The Dish Network DVR also allows you to rewind live TV. Great for catching that big explosion again on an action movie or a great play on a sports broadcast. You'll notice that the rewind has 4 speeds. You can rewind at 4, 15, 60 and 300 times normal speed. After the rewind you can see the fast forward feature used to return to the live broadcast. Fast forward has the same 4 speeds that rewind does.

The Dish Network DVR on-screen program guide has some powerful features. This video demonstrates the one that allows you to search the entire program guide for all movies that will be aired over the next few days. As you can see, it listed over 12,000 movies, but they do include pay-per-view and subscription channels like HBO and Showtime.

The Dish Network "Dish On Demand" feature is a lot like the "on demand" features that the cable companies offer. You can browse a selection of movies that you can watch anytime for a fee. Note that I did not show all movies that were available.

The Picture-In-Picture or PIP feature allows you to watch another channel in a small picture that fits on part of the main screen. There is no sound available from the program being viewed in a PIP picture for obvious reasons. I mostly use PIP to avoid commercials when I am watching live TV, so I can switch to another channel to watch while watching the original program in the PIP picture so I will know when the commercials are over. The video shows that the PIP pictures are available in different sizes and can be moved to various locations inside the main screen.

The first part of this video shows how to view the list of programs that have already been recorded and viewed at any time. The second portion briefly shows the schedule of programs that are set to be recorded that day. The programs with lines through them indicate that the program does not meet the criteria that I have set up the timer for. For instance, the program may be a repeat and I have set the timer to record only new episodes. On the third part of the video, it shows the timers I have set up to record various programs. The programs that are listed as "Manual Timer" are programs that were recorded from local TV stations using a roof-top antenna. The Dish Network DVR allows you to connect a standard TV antenna and receive local channels that are broadcast in the digital format. It works very well in my area and saves me a few bucks every month since I don't have to pay Dish Network the extra $5 or so per month to receive my local channels from the satellite.

This feature is pretty useful if you are looking for a particular program that may be airing within the next few days. You can use a keyword to search through days of programming to locate the program you want. In this video, I also create a record timer so that the program is recorded when it airs. Notice how a program can be recorded one time or every time a new episode airs.

The on-screen program guide displays what's available to watch. You can even look a few days ahead to see what is coming up. As you can see, it provides good detail on most programs that it lists. For more info visit: http://www.homesfornh.com/dish

On the Dish Network DVR remote, there is a "skip back" button that brings the program back about 10 seconds each time it is pressed. You can use this during live TV, which is nice if you missed a word or want to see a certain scene again. In this video, you can see how the program was skipped back a few times and then skipped forward to return to the live broadcast.
