今回、ご紹介する曲は2018年からNetflixで全世界に向けて配信されているDevilman Crybabyの主題歌です。
海外でも非常に人気が高く、色々な人がカバーしていますが、
その中でも私が最も上手だと思った人、Caleb Hylesをご紹介します。
驚くことに、彼は英語の歌詞もご本人で書かれたようですが、
まるで元々、英語で書かれていたかのように自然に聞こえますね。
意味も日本語の歌詞から大きく外れていません。凄いですね！
ここでデビルマンを観たことのない人のために、あらすじをご説明します。
デビルマンの主人公「不動明」は、心と体を悪魔に乗っ取られつつも、
人間の心を失わないようにもがき続けます。そして自身に宿った悪魔の力を利用しながら、
人間たちを守るために悪魔と戦います。しかし、人間の心と体を持っていながらも
悪魔のように非道で残酷な人間たちを次第に憎むようになり、「なぜ自分が戦わなければならないのか」、「何のために戦っているのか」と葛藤します。いわゆる「ダークヒーロー物」です。

Surprisingly, he wrote the lyrics in English by himself.
They sound natural as if they were originally written in English and
are close to the original ones. Ingenious!
For people, who have never seen the animation, I explain the story.
The central character of the Devilman, Akira Fudo, struggles not to lose the human heart though a devil possesses his body and heart.
And he fights against devils utilizing the power of the devil that possesses his body.
However, he hates humans gradually because they are unhuman and very cruel like devils
even they have a human body.
“Why should I fight?”, “What am I fighting for?” He wrestles with the internal conflicts.
The Devilman is what we call a dark hero.
