Right To JoyThe essence of all child rights, may be termed as- the right to joy. When a child enjoys the right to survival; to develop to the fullest; to protection from harmful influences, abuse and exploitation; and to participate fully in family, cultural and social life, he or she is automatically the signatory of the right to joy. When the children lack any of these basic rights, they lack their right to joy. Kaushik is a 12years old 7th standard student of Basudebpur Highschool, who falls in the second category.
Charlie Chaplin is the apostle of joy. Ironically, the agonizing buffoonism of this 12 years old kid dressed as Chaplin, mocks all theorized child rights. This kid has been given the responsibility of other kids joy. Then who will take responsibility of his right to joy? Fortunately, some people do. There are schools and institutions in our country to reach out to students to whom formal education cannot reach. However, the number should rise. Above all, students like Kaushik must be helped to acquire the elixir of life- right to joy.
