Randy Schlitter Talks About His All-Metal LSA The RANS S-19 achieved SLSA certification, just a few months ago and is already getting solid attention from the sport aviation buying public. The aircraft is destined to enter series production as the S-19LS. Certification was granted December 21, and delivery of the first S-19LS planes should begin by the end of 2008. The company notes the S-19LS is the first all-new aircraft -- made and designed in the USA, and specifically intended for the light sport category -- to receive SLSA status since the ruling went into effect. "As the first all-new US design and manufactured light sport to be offered RANS has achieved something unique as the plane itself," said Randy Schlitter, CEO of RANS Aircraft. The S-19LS is an all-metal, low wing aircraft, relying heavily on CAD/CAM methods. This is the closest I've come to a "feature length" project without everyone up and leaving. It's a short, 30 minutes in length, but I think you get a lot of bang in that time. It's my homage to the hyper stylish horror/suspense films of Brian De Palma, Dario Argento and Michael Mann, just to name a few. It's a throwback to the 70's and 80's. It's also a subtle satire of the suspense/horror genre, with lots of slight "in jokes" thrown in, if you look hard enough. We had no budget and were only able to work on it on weekends. And we had to rush on it, originally our deadline was to meet the entry period for a festival in NC, we made it just under the wire then they rescheduled the festival for September! And also, forgive the sound quality in the dialogue scenes. We were filming with live sound and during the last weekend of shooting we caught bronchitis and weren't able to dub the thing! Two Arab assassins arrive to retrieve the lamp, and when Bradley orders the crates delivered to his house, follow the Stooges to the residence to kill them.
