KAAM [Garland, TX (770kc/10kW/1kW)] Received on 03-15-2010 in Taylor, TX These new cameras have very narrow bass pickup for some reason.
This is KAAM, a standards station out of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex operating on 770kc in the commercial MW band. The station uses 5 towers total to radiate the signal mainly to the south. It uses 4 of them during the day time to send 10,000 watts, and uses another set of 4 to send 1000 watts with a different pattern for nighttime broadcasting. The broadcast originates from the Plano area. The distance from the array to my home is 177 miles or 285 kilometers.
Legends 77, as the station is called, is now the only standards station that gets a full signal into DFW proper, that is if one could consider the former KPMZ station standards. There are several other standards stations operating as rim shots; all of those stations are 1kW or less. One is a daytime only station, while another one operates 270 watts during the day and 6 at night.
According to the their website and other sources, KAAM broadcasts iBiquity's Hybrid Digital (or what consumers know as HD Radio).
