Les cygnes (Cygnus sp.) sont un groupe de grands oiseaux aquatiques de la famille des anatidés. Ils sont connus pour leur cou courbé (ils possèdent le plus grand nombre de vertèbres cervicales de tous les vertébrés) et pour leurs belles plumes blanches. Cependant, quelques espèces ont un plumage noir. Les petits du cygne sont appelés cygneaux. Le cygne est l'oiseau dédié à Apollon dans la mythologie grecque. Juste avant de mourir, le cygne chanterait davantage et avec plus de force. Cette caractéristique a donné l'expression qui remonte à l’Antiquité grecque (en référence au dernier discours de Socrate condamné à mort pour impiété)
