A young Japanese salaryman is sent by his company to a remote Chinese village to evaluate precious Jade that is found there, but before he arrives meets the yakuza who was sent to tail him to protect his bosses interest in the company. Even in this world of distrust, it would be difficult for any man to resist the charms and superb beauty that Yong-ju (played by Kim Ha-neul) has in this romantic comedy. On the way to attend her cousin's wedding in Kahloun, Zayoun's car breaks down near a village called Mais Elrim. The village is already tense because of the dispute between Na'man's family and Shahida's family. The reason is that Na'man and Shahida love eachother but their families don't agree on a marriage because of a 20 year old feud which the other villagers have also taken part by siding with either Na'man or Shahida's family. One day, a teenage boy happens to witness a woman dumping a dead body down a well near his village on the outskirts of the desert. Noticing his presence,the murderess decides to kill him, starting a deadly Marathon. DEAD HEAT has the simplest of plots, so the magic isn't found in the story but the sheer tension and the stark vistas of the desert. Barari's cinematography bathes the dawning desert in a gentle mystery entirely at odds with the frantic chase being played out.
