Like humans, animals feel panic and fear during earthquakes, fires, floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes and run equal risks of injury and death. PETA's new public service announcement offers a close-up view of the heart of the storm.

During a natural disaster, animals are often the most helpless victims.

PETA obtained video footage of employees' freezing baby mice and rats alive at a Petland store in Fairfax, Virginia. In the video, an employee takes live baby rats, or "pinkies," from their mother and places them in a freezer to die slow, painful deaths.

For six months, a PETA undercover investigator worked in an Ohio lab where beagles were force-fed Oxycontin, a drug that had already been tested on animals and had been on the market in the U.S. for decades. The tests were conducted ostensibly to satisfy Japanese regulatory requirements. This case led to PETA's involvement in the International Conference on Harmonization, which works to streamline regulatory requirements for drug testing.

The moral and the scientific argument complement each other very powerfully. The moral argument is best conveyed by images of animals used in experiments.
