Dr. Barton on the Role of Real Estate in Educational InstitutionsWell, one thing a lot of school are is land rich and endowment or cash poor. And so for some of the schools we work with, we look at their real estate portfolio—dormitories, academic classrooms—maybe they're leasing in an efficient fashion because they've tried to build branch campuses. Maybe they need additional dormitories, or maybe they need to upgrade their dormitories...you have a freshman class that's coming in each year that are more sophisticated and demand better facilities. So we like to look at the overall real estate portfolio for a college or university, and really help them take a look at that and make sure from a capital standpoint they're getting, first of all, the best return for their investment and their capital real estate, and that they have facilities that are going to be competitive in the marketplace.
