Gemma Ray - I'd Rather Go BlindBack in April, after spending a month recording and mixing her new album Lights Out Zoltar!, she left the mixing studio, loaded up her car and left for home. When she got there, she searched her car for the hard drive. It wasnt there. She had left it on the roof of her car and driven off. Much to the chagrin of her label, Bronzerat Records, she had to extract the raw data files from the back up disk, and start the mixing all over again. Not an easy task. And now the curse has struck again. After a whole day shooting a video for single 100 mph (in 2nd Gear), Gemma got in her car and reversed over the camera and the box containing all the film. A fitting end to her driving-themed music? Maybe. What is certain is that she should not be allowed behind the wheel, despite the inspiration it may give. Gemma narrowly escaped death on the M25 last November after being overturned by a truck. Gemma Ray fans have waited with anticipation for a video from the new album, and although they will have to wait a while longer, she is offering a consolatory plan B. Yesterday she sat in front of her laptop and recorded an exclusive: performing her own emotive take of Etta James Id Rather Go Blind.
