Der Mercedes-Benz F-CELL World Drive hat Australien erfolgreich durchquert. Die drei B-KLassen legten an 11Tagen mehr als 5300 Kilometer zurück und die Tour feierte "Halbzeit" in Australien. Mehr als 15 000 Kilometer liegen nun hinter den Fahrer und von nun an geht es wieder nach Hause. Für Fahrer und Journalisten war die Australien Etappe, die durch faszinierende Landschaften führte ein klarer Höhepunkt der Tour. Wie schon in Europa und Amerika wurden die Fahrzeuge auch in Australien von einer mobilen Wasserstofftankstelle begleitet. Von Perth aus ging es dann weiter nach China, wo die Fahrzeuge auf der Shanghai Motor Show einen Zwischenstopp hatten.

Die drei B-Klassen F-CELL, die zurzeit die Welt umrunden, überschritten dabei die 15 000 Kilometer Marke, die Hälfte der insgesamt 30 000 Kilometer langen Strecke. Von Melbourne fuhren die Fahrzeuge entlang der Südost Küste Australiens und dann Richtung Westen. Die Orte tragen klangvolle Namen wie Widgiemooltha, Bullabulling, Coolgardie oder Kalgoorlie. Letzteres Städtchen sieht aus wie eine Western-Kulisse. Nicht ganz zufällig: Denn Kalgoorlie, gegründet im Goldrausch von 1888 (50 Städte schossen damals innerhalb von Monaten aus dem Boden), ist bis heute Zentrum der Goldförderung in Westaustralien; wie es sich gehört mit vielen Kirchen und Saloons, Spielhöllen oder Tattoo-Studios.

The three Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELLs driving 30 000 Kilometers or 19000 miles around the world have now completed the first half of its journey -- more than 15.000 Kilometers. From Melbourne the Mercedes F-Cells went along the south east coast of Australia and then headed westward, towards the great plains.

This concept has the potential to change the compact segment around the globe. This is a very first sneak preview of the actual car. The expressive design of the Concept A-Class stands for outstanding dynamics and the technical highlights include a new, turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, a dual clutch transmission and a radar-based collision warning system with adaptive Brake Assist. the Concept A-Class is ushering in a new compact class era at Mercedes-Benz. This front-wheel drive model is powered by a four-cylinder petrol engine from the new M270 series. It was designed for transverse installation, and thanks to direct injection and turbocharging it offers a high performance potential together with minimal emissions and fuel consumption. The Concept A-Class is equipped with the two-litre variant of the new engine, developing 155 kW (210 hp). This BlueEFFICIENCY unit is combined with the new Mercedes-Benz dual clutch transmission. As a world first in the compact class, the concept car features a radar-based collision warning system with adaptive Brake Assist, which lowers the risk of rear-end collisions. This assistance system, Collision Prevention Assist, gives a visual and acoustic warning to a possibly inattentive driver, and prepares Brake Assist for an absolutely precise braking response. This is initiated as soon as the driver emphatically operates the brake pedal.

Nachdem der Mercedes-Benz F-CELL Drive seine Europa Etappe erfolgreich abgeschlossen hat, wurden die drei B-Klassen F-Cell in eine Boing 747 verladen und zusammen mit dem gesamten Equipment der Tour nach Miami gefllogen. Von dort startet der Drive am 25 Februar auf seiner Welrumrundung quer durch die USA. Am 27. Februar geht es dann von Seattle nach Australien.
