Hinter diesen Anschlaegen steckte eine vom italienischen Geheimdienst, verschiedenen Neofaschisten, Militaers und auslaendischen Geheimdiensten (vor allem der CIA) aufgebaute, der NATO angeschlossene Geheimorganisation mit dem Namen "GLADIO" (das Schwert). Zunaechst wurden indes linke Gruppen beschuldigt, bzw. zwei so genannte "Anarchisten", die auch bald inhaftiert wurden und monatelang unschuldig in Haft sassen. Urspruenglich fuer den Fall einer sowjetischen Invasion konzipiert, verfolgte GLADIO schon bald das Ziel, den "Ruf nach der starken Hand" zu provozieren - den Ruf nach Faschismus. Erst seit wenigen Jahren wird GLADIO in Italien und anderen Laendern aufgearbeitet - eine Organisation, die sogar kurz vor einem Putschversuch stand.
