McCain, Obama Discuss Volunteer Efforts in AmericaOn the seventh anniversary of 9/11, U.S. presidential contenders John McCain and Barack Obama discussed volunteerism and service during a summit in New York City. While Senator McCain and Senator Obama differ on a number of issues, both men agree there is a growing need for people to volunteer.
AARP co-sponsored ServiceNation, a two-day forum (Sept. 11-12) that calls on Americans to help solve some of the nation's challenges through volunteerism. Additional speakers at the conference are expected to include celebrities, business execs, political and non-profit leaders.
Available video includes (in order of appearance) William D. Novelli, Chief Executive Officer, AARP; Richard Stengel, Managing Editor, TIME Magazine; Senator John McCain, Arizona (R); Judy Woodruff, Senior Correspondent, PBS; Senator Barack Obama, Illinois (D).
