Aarti Sehgal (Karisma Kapoor) is a wealthy young girl who is the only child of her father, Mr. Sehgal (oberoi) and stepmother Shalini (Archana Puran Singh), who wishes to acquire all the wealth of her husband. Aarti decides to go for a vacation to Palankhet, to discover the memories of her deceased mother. Upon arrival, she finds out she has no transportation from the airport to Palankhet, and so she hires the services of the only available driver, Raja Hindustani (Aamir Khan) During her stay in Palankhet, Aarti and Raja bond and ultimately fall in love. One day, to Aarti's surprise, her father arrives in Palankhet and intends to take her home with him. Aarthi tells her father about Raja, but Mr. Sehgal says that he will only accept the marriage on the condition that Raja goes to Mumbai and learns to become a respectable member of society. Raja refuses and forces Aarti to make a decision. Aarti chooses Raja, but begs for her father's blessings. Her father refuses to offer his blessings and leaves for Mumbai. After some time, Mr. Sehgal forgives his daughter and visits her in Palankhet. While there, he gives his daughter and son-in-law a new house. Raja refuses to live in the house because he does not see it as a gift, but rather as charity, since he is poor . Shalini, her brother, Swaraj (Pramod Moutho), and her nephew Jai (Mohnish Behl) seek to exploit this conflict to gain total control of Mr. Sehgal's assets. Under the pretext of a birthday party, they bring Raja and Aarti to Mumbai and set in motion events that cause Aarti and Raja to separate.

The plot revolves around a young girl Sahiba who witnesses the brutal murder of a young woman inside her college campus. The perpetrators follow her as she tries to flee home. She is rescued by Karan, an army captain, who sees the men assaulting her at the train station. During the journey Sahiba reveals that she is in a very difficult spot. She cannot go back to college because the murderers will be looking for her. And she doesn't want to go home because she had jokingly told her aunt on the phone that she has gotten married in the city. Her parents now expect her to come home with her husband. Sonia Sehgal and Naina Sehgal (both played by Kajol) are twins. The two are completely different from each other, Sonia being the outgoing twin and Naina being the shy one. One day Gokul kidnaps Naina's younger sister Dia from school in order to scare and warn Naina with what risk she is playing. That day Naina's mother decides to leave for Naintal immediately as her daughter's life is at risk. However Naina cannot control her hatred, and wanted to avenge her sister at any cost. During a Buzkashi competition with a neighbouring tribe in Afghanistan, Badshah Khan (Amitabh Bachchan) falls in love with Benazir (Sridevi) and wants to marry her. Benazir agrees to marry him, on the condition that he must bring her the head of Habibullah, who killed her father. Badshah Khan goes to India to search for Habibullah. He finds Habibullah in a prison and breaks him out to take him back. He has the jailer Ranveer Singh (Vikram Gokhale) on his trail. He chops off Habibullah's head. When confronted by Ranveer, he tells him that he would be back in a month to receive punishment for taking Habibullah. Badshah goes back to Afghanistan and marries Benazir; after the time limit, he comes back to India and surrenders himself to Ranveer Singh, who he addresses as "Rajput Khan" and is jailed for five years. While Badshah Khan is away, his childhood friend Khuda Baksh (Danny Denzongpa) assumes the role of a guardian for Benazir. To avenge Habibullah's death, his brother Pasha (Kiran Kumar) kidnaps the daughter of jailor Ranveer, Heena, in return for Badshah. Badshah finds out about this and escapes from jail; he confronts Pasha, only to have Inspector Aziz Mirza (Bharat Kapoor) kill Ranveer Singh. With Ranveer Singh's daughter as a pawn in Pasha's hands, Badshah admits to killing Ranveer Singh and is sentenced to 15 years. When Aziz's wife (who thinks of Badshah as her brother) visits him, she ends up killing her husband to protect Badshah, but Badshah takes the blame for that murder as well since he believes that her son Raja needs her. The movie takes place in the Indian desert state of Rajasthan, which gives it something in common with Rudaali, another off-beat drama set in Rajasthan that was released around the same time and also featured Dimple Kapadia and Amjad Khan. The plot centres around a government employee, Sameer Niyogi (Vinod Khanna), who is sent to Rajasthan to take inventory of items in the abandoned haveli (mansion) of the long-deceased Maharaja Param Singh (Vijayendra Ghatge). When he arrives in Rajasthan, he meets his old friend Shafi (Amjad Khan) who is a tax collector in the area and lives with his wife Sharda (Beena Banerjee). Sameer begins seeing what he thinks could very well be visions of another time and place, visions that he is shown by a beautiful woman he encounters by the name of Reva (Dimple Kapadia). But is Reva real or just a figment of Sameer's imagination? The drama that unfolds catapults Sameer into a different time and place and shakes his own personal foundation of reality, even as Shafi and his wife fear that their old friend may be losing his mind. In addition to the excellent performances and overall haunting quality of the cinematography, the plot twists and guest appearance of Hema Malini add to the film's charms. Somebody empties the bank accounts of many people, including Babu Anna (Akhilendra Mishra), an underworld don, via an Internet theft. The police are clueless about the robber, and Anna wants revenge. In another story, Jai Malhotra (Shahid Kapoor) lives with his best friend, Sonia (Kim Sharma). He meets Neha Mehra (Kareena Kapoor) and falls in love with her instantly. At first Neha rejects Jai, causing him to attempt suicide. After Sonia chastises Neha regarding Jai's actions, she then falls for him too. One day, Jai sees Neha trying to hang herself after getting a phone call. She tells him that her dead father owed a huge amount of money to Babu Anna's underworld. To repay the amount, he became part of a gang of hackers who were responsible for the Internet thefts. After his death, Babu's Anna underworld began pursuing Neha to recover the money. Jai and Neha try to sell their apartments to get enough money, to no avail. A visit from a client leads Jai to consider robbing a bank to get the necessary money. At a bank, Jai spots a rich man named Vikram Singh (Fardeen Khan) withdrawing a huge sum of money and instead decides to steal from him. Sanjana (Kareena Kapoor) is a young woman, full of life. She has just graduated from college and is not happy about the concept of arranged marriage, much to the dismay of her mother Susheela (Himani Shivpuri). Roopa – Sanjana's older sister who has settled in the U.S., phones her parents and informs them that her friend Prem has seen Sanjana's picture and is interested in getting to know her. Prem is a wealthy businessman who has also settled in the U.S. with his parents. Sanjana is not pleased with this development, and she eventually meets Prem Kishen (Hrithik Roshan). At first Sanjana cannot stand the enthusiastic and out going Prem, and she plays a series of pranks on him, together with her friends. As they begin to spend more time together, they put their differences aside and eventually fall in love, much to the delight of her parents – who also love Prem. Prem returns to the U.S. for work and promises Sanjana that he will be back soon. Suddenly, however, Roopa informs the family that her friend Prem could not make it so someone else was sent in his place. Inspector Gagan Singh (Suresh Oberoi) gets a tip about an infamous exiled criminal Munna (Anil Kapoor), entering his jurisdiction, so he checks Munna's file. Singh is shocked to find that Munna is none other than NCC cadet Mahesh Deshmukh, an aspiring officer, whom he had met years ago at a bank in Nasik. In front of the eyes of Singh and Mahesh, a robbery took place and Mahesh's parents who were bank employees were killed. Singh never got to know what happened to Mahesh. Nevertheless, Singh tracks Munna and asks him to surrender. Munna tells him that he has to save his love Mohini (Madhuri Dixit) from the clutches of dreaded gangster Lotiya Pathan (Kiran Kumar). He reveals that he shifted to Bombay (now Mumbai) with his sister Jyoti (Suparna Anand) after the incident. He met a girl named Mohini and fell in love with her. Mohini's father Shyamlal (Anupam Kher) didn't like this relationship. Shyamlal was a drunkard who mooched off the money earned by his dancer wife (Suhas Joshi). When she finally stood up to him, Shyamlal burned her face with sulphuric acid. She died soon afterwards, following which Shyamlal forced Mohini to follow her mother's steps. Babu works for three underworld dons and must go to prison to protect them. When his sentence is over, he returns home to find that Purnima (his wife), Arjun (his son) and Pooja (his daughter) live a destitute life. In order to gain revenge, he reveals his bosses', Chhote Pathan and Rajjo Singh, secrets about their illegal dealings. His bosses decide to punish his betrayal by sparing his life, but kidnapping his daughter Pooja. When Babu tries to save his daughter, he is beheaded in front of his wife. This happened on Rakhi Day while Arjun was out polishing shoes to make money to give a gift to Pooja. He sees the gangsters' car drive by and Pooja calling out for help. He chases the car for a minute before his little feet can no longer keep up. Purnima (Raakhee) loses her mind, and is hospitalized in a mental hospital. Growing up, Arjun (Akshay Kumar) becomes a high-profile vigilante. He works for a police officer. As for Purnima, she becomes terribly ill and can be saved only if she sees her daughter again.
