Mentally challenged Indraneel Thakur (Ajay Devgn) works as a waiter in a coffee shop while he raises his daughter Gungun (Rucha Vaidya) as a single parent. Gungun loves him very much and in an attempt to remain at his level, refuses to go to school. Gungun's mother Maya Trivedi (Esha Deol) came into Neel's life when she needed someone desperately. After giving birth to her she disappeared never to be seen again. For seven years Neel has looked after the child and both are happy together. However Maya's father Dayanath Trivedi (Anupam Kher) comes to India for his granddaughter. On Gungun's birthday, Neel has a surprise party for her. Gungun is upset and leaves. Taking advantage of Gungun leaving her house, Dayanath gives Neel a court notice and soon takes Neel to court. With the help of the townspeople Neel is introduced to Niti Khanna (Sushmita Sen), a lawyer and single mother dealing with her own problems. Her son, Rahul, won't listen to her. Niti initially doesn't agree to represent Neel, but when Rahul meets Neel and becomes his friend, Niti realized that she should help him. A custody battle ensues. It is found out that Maya was on drugs and died because of it which is why she didn't return to her father or Neel. When the case is nearing completion and Dayanath's has almost won, Niti decides to marry Indraneel, after a fifteen minutes recess Niti presents the marriage papers to the judge, and the latter declares that Gungun will be in custody of Indraneel and Niti, Gungun accepts Niti as her mother and Rahul as her brother. Dayanath regrets being mean to Indraneel and accepts him as his son-in-law before flying back to London. The story deals with Verma family consisting of two brothers, Vijay and Sharad, Vijay's wife, Ganga, and their daughter. Sharad is unmarried and is studying in college while Vijay runs the household on his income. In college, Sharad meets with Punam and both are attracted to each other. Ganga and Vijay get them married but permit them a married life only after they complete their studies, which they do. They are devastated to learn that Punam cannot be a mother, so Ganga lets Punam mother her child. Soon Sharad gets a job, which gets him to relocate to another city, and there are tearful good-byes. Punam decides to keep Ganga's child with her. But Ganga has been kind to Punam and Sharad for a reason, and now the time has come for payback. Sanjana (Kareena Kapoor) is a young woman, full of life. She has just graduated from college and is not happy about the concept of arranged marriage, much to the dismay of her mother Susheela (Himani Shivpuri). Roopa – Sanjana's older sister who has settled in the U.S., phones her parents and informs them that her friend Prem has seen Sanjana's picture and is interested in getting to know her. Inspector Gagan Singh (Suresh Oberoi) gets a tip about an infamous exiled criminal Munna (Anil Kapoor), entering his jurisdiction, so he checks Munna's file. Singh is shocked to find that Munna is none other than NCC cadet Mahesh Deshmukh, an aspiring officer, whom he had met years ago at a bank in Nasik. In front of the eyes of Singh and Mahesh, a robbery took place and Mahesh's parents who were bank employees were killed. Singh never got to know what happened to Mahesh. Nevertheless, Singh tracks Munna and asks him to surrender. Munna tells him that he has to save his love Mohini (Madhuri Dixit) from the clutches of dreaded gangster Lotiya Pathan (Kiran Kumar). He reveals that he shifted to Bombay (now Mumbai) with his sister Jyoti (Suparna Anand) after the incident. He met a girl named Mohini and fell in love with her. Mohini's father Shyamlal (Anupam Kher) didn't like this relationship. Shyamlal was a drunkard who mooched off the money earned by his dancer wife (Suhas Joshi). When she finally stood up to him, Shyamlal burned her face with sulphuric acid. She died soon afterwards, following which Shyamlal forced Mohini to follow her mother's steps. Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is the daughter of Pandit Darbar (Vikram Gokhale), a renowned proponent of Indian classical music. Into this carefree life enters Sameer (Salman Khan), a young man who wants to grasp the intricacies of Indian classical music under the guidance of Pandit Darbar. Aghoori (Danny Denzongpa) is on the hunt of a ichchhadhari Naag Naagin, Pritam (Jeetendra) and Banu (Madhavi), who unlock a treasure trove every lunar eclipse that holds immense wealth and the key to immortality. Sahiba is an intelligent, shy, and sensitive girl attending college a long way from home.
