Drakula İstanbul'da, Mehmet Muhtar'ın yönetmenliğini üstlendiği 1953 tarihli korku filmidir. Ali Rıza Seyfi'nin Bram Stoker'ın romanından uyarladığı Kazıklı Voyvoda adlı romandan uyarlanmıştır. Film orijinalinin Türk versiyonudur. Küçük bir bütçe ile çekilmesine rağmen o zamanların teknolojisine göre ustaca çekilmiştir. Filmin bütçesi dar olduğu için bazı sahnelerde reklam konulmuştur. Son zamanlarda Amerika'da düzenlenen bir film festivalinde yayınlanmış ve ayakta alkışlanmıştır.

What was Bram Stoker trying to tell us?

Although there have been numerous versions of Bram Stoker’s classic tale, none is more enduring than the 1931 original. The ominous portrayal of Count Dracula by Béla Lugosi, combined with horror specialist director Tod Browning, help to create the film’s eerie mood. ‘Dracula’ remains a masterpiece not only of the genre, but for all time.

Dashing leading man through most of the silent film era, Monte Blue took well to talking pictures and this 1932 production The Stoker is a wonderful part of Blue’s highly reputed body of work. Unflinchingly dramatic at ever turn, Blue plays a poor guy who’s been left by his faithless wife. Deciding to give up on his normal life, Blue drifts around before landing a job as a stoker aboard a large vessel, fueling the great furnaces by shoveling coal all day. His journeying eventually leads him to a plantation where he meets a nice young girl – who needs to be saved. This vivid and moving film will tug at your heartstrings. The Stoker is a keeper.

F.W. Murnau's adaption of Bram Stoker's Dracula is a masterpiece and one of the earliest examples of the horror genre. Many of the genre conventions employed here live on today - the slow moving murderous villain, the screaming and seemingly paralized damsel. Remade by Werner Herzog in 1979.
