Danny Ways Knee Surgery in Austria
This is a small part from Danny Way's surgery in Austria where he underwent another knee surgery to replace a torn ACL-an ACL that was previously repaired with a synthetic material. It all started with a torn meniscus and a trip to the hospital in San Diego. Upon opening Danny's knee, the doctors discovered his synthetic ACL had been blown apart as well. Danny was immediately on a plane to Austria with DC filmer Sean Rogers to document the experience. Danny requested he stay awake for the surgery and just got a local anesthetic on his leg. Needless to say, the doctors were tripping, but Danny's had so many surgeries and he wanted to learn what was going on. In the video footage, the doctors are explaining the surgery to Danny as it's taking place. As Mike Blabac put it, "It sounds like they're putting a tire on a car. The doctor is a big guy, and he was grunting while he was putting the bolts in." Other hospital staff were stopping by to see the spectacle as well. As far as recovery time, the doctors say six months, but Danny says two. If I remember correctly Danny was back in two months...maybe less.
