See the Modern Side of Southwest ChinaBreathtakingly remote, the Three Parallel Rivers National Park is another haven for intrepid hikers. This is where three of the world's great rivers converge and flow side by side: the Yangtze, Mekong (Southeast Asia's main river) and Salween (Myanmar's second largest river). Each flows into an ocean thousands of miles apart. It's a dramatic and undiscovered destination, with most hikes requiring at least a week. Accommodation is in a mix of traditional Tibetan teahouses and camping, with the path crisscrossing across a series of rugged peaks. Hikes can be organized through tour companies in Lijiang and Shangri-la.
