I grew up in a retail environment. I couldn't help it. My Dad was in the hardware business almost all of his adult life, and the lessons he learned he passed on to me. He worked in the central organization of Coast-To-Coast Stores, and in the latter part of my high school years I worked in one of the stores until I left for college in another city. So, what does this have to do with spirituality? Perhaps more than some folks want to admit. The secret to success in being in the retail business is to not only persuade the customer to buy this time, but to come back again to buy some more. And for the customer, the secret is to get the best possible deal consistently so that you get what you want without going broke. Now, does that sound like it might have a parallel in the stuff we're talking about? This episode was inspired by a recent visit to a deli which I regularly frequent. And this time, the lady in front of me was someone whose knowledge of cheese was there was "white cheese" and there was "yellow cheese", or so it seemed. It reminded me of the person who asked for "bolts" with no appreciation of how many kinds of bolts there are, or the person who asked for "a thingamabob about so long...." And after the deli clerk had served the lady her "white cheese", he and I had a nice chat comparing notes. Can you see how something there might relate to how to use prayer effectively? I knew which kind of cheese I wanted, right down to the brand - much easier for him to get me what I really wanted. Oh, and of course it heled to let him know that I had an appreciation of what he did. And I come there regularly enough that he knows me. Do you think that helps? On May 19th, I spoke at Northwestern University. The title of my talk was "What I Wish I Knew About Personal Finance in College". This was my first talk in front of a large audience. I admit I was nervous. Although, after it was a great feeling hearing the positive feedback. Many students even said it most useful event Tau Beta Pi, the organization that organized the event, has ever organized on campus! The talk was scheduled 40 minutes with a 20 minute Q&A to follow. However, the Q&A went for an hour (many questions on establishing credit out of all things). I wasn't able to record the entire talk but was able to get a majority.

Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne Look At Me Now Cover by Pat Noonan The Busta Rhymes Verse The first time I heard Look At Me Now by Chris Brown featuring Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne I knew I had to cover Busta's verse so I grabbed my acoustic and got to work. Sadly nothing was working so I went back to the original to look for ideas. After listening to the song more and more I recognized the snare sounded a lot like the sound of the break at the beginning of a pool game. I set up a mic next to my pool table and sure enough the sound worked. Then my mission became figuring out how to replace each sound in the original song with acoustic sounds. I came up with something for each part except the synth "water drop" type sound, but luckily the very beginning of the original song starts out with that part by itself so I was able to sample and loop it. Also I recorded electric bass but there was no time in the video to add fit the footage in there. I've been a big fan of Busta Rhymes for many years and for good reason, he's consistently put out quality tracks for so many years, not to mention he's hilarious! (Just watch a few youtube videos of him in the studio, it's too good.) So I gotta give big props to Busta Rhymes for inspiring this ridiculous cover, this one goes out to you Busta, hopefully I did your verse some justice. Also a big thanks to Kevin Hansen, I handed my Rebel T2i over to him and he helped out with all the filming, couldn't of done it without you man. And one last thing, if you can think of any songs with beats that you think could be recreated with different instruments like in this vid leave it a comment below, I'd love to hear from you! First it causes a severe mind fog when you wake up in the morning, or it did me anyway, that you can't shake, secondly a severe lack of energy, I used to feel like my butt was glued to the couch.
