Selon Fitzgerald, le génie de Einstein, Newton, Mozart et Beethoven serait du à des connexions défaillantes de leur cerveau. Un peu comme celui de Matt Savage et de Stephen Wiltshire. Cette théorie a poussé le professeur Alan Snyder, de l’université de Sydney, à mener des expériences où il tente de désactiver temporairement certaines parties du cerveau de cobayes humains pour augmenter leur créativité. « Il est fascinant, dit Snyder, de devoir suspendre l’activité de certaines parties de notre cerveau pour que notre créativité puisse s’épanouir. » Les expériences de Snyder sont toutefois très controversées.
