Nutrition 101 with Joan O'Keefe, RD - Breakfast and Carbohydrates Video 2 in the Nutrition 101 series with Joan O'Keefe, RD. For more information visit http://www.foreveryoungdiet.com Doughnuts, muffins, pancakes with syrup, toast with jelly and sugary cereals are all easily digested carbohydrates and are the wrong start to your day. These are very small molecules that are almost already digested. When they get down to your stomach they are digested quickly and turned into a form that raises blood sugar and spikes blood sugar levels, then you crash. When blood sugar levels go up quickly, an over production of insulin takes place because your body doesnâÂÂt know how much insulin to secrete because it doesnâÂÂt know how much is down in the stomach. When your body secretes insulin it brings blood sugar levels down and you come crashing down. If you start your day with easily digested carbohydrates, you will feel hungry, feel like you canâÂÂt think, feel low energy and have cravings for more easily digested carbohydrates because it gave you a sugar a rush and a serotonin release. This causes you to eat more calories than you need in a day just to try to keep your blood sugar levels even. You will spike and crash all day long causing inflammation and disease.
