Uncommonly, the Native Americans acting in the film were actual Sioux people, and the dusty and weather beaten countryside that they’re placed on is authentic. The Invaders is so honest and far from a product of Hollywood that it could be considered a historical documentary, and is an invaluable chronicle of a bygone era.

Part of the popular run of cowboy trio western films, Trigger Pals charmingly bounds across the old western California countryside. The heros - Lucky, Stormy, and Fuzzy - must ride their horses to the rescue of the Allen Ranch owners from a band of rustlers, headed by the sinister Harvey Kent (Ted Adams). Trouble at Melody Mesa is a comedic western that was made mostly to showcase country western musical performers Cal Shrum and other popular musicians of the ninetine forties. The amusingly campy plot is overrun with the funny caricatures, but the real entertainment comes from the musical escapades. Cal Shrum and the Rhythm Rangers are the centerpiece, but they are joined by a number of nifty cameos. The Yodeling Rangerette and Brad King, who was sidekick to Johnny Nelson for years, are the highlights. Trouble at Melody Mesa is a healthy dose of tumble weed porch music good times.

John Wayne is an undisputed American icon, but fans have seen little of early starting roles. Here in West of the Divide, a young Wayne is showcased brilliantly. All the essential western pieces are at work here, including villainous crooks, beautiful damsels, and gun shooting action. Where West of the Divide differs is in its difficult subject matter. Child abuse and family strife is at work in John Wayne’s youthful role. Wayne plays Ted Hayden, a man who’s looking for his father’s murderer and his long lost brother. At the same time, he must save and teach a young girl, played by the beautiful Virginia Brown Faire, about how to live honorably. This is not the sturdy and immovable Wayne of later years; and it’s fascinating to watch this great figure grow up on the screen.

Western Mail is rugged and savory western movie fair. Tom Keene was one of Monogram Pictures biggest stars and Western Mail was the last of a string of popular cowboy movies. A twist on the classic straight forward cowboy hero, Keene was known for going undercover and posturing as one of the bad guys. Keene must save the lovely Julia Trent and do plenty of gun slinging along the way! Wonderful mustache twirling villains populate this colorful and cheeky Wild West adventure. Keene would go on to a longer film career, playing villains himself and even appearing in the Ed Wood classic Plan 9 from Outer Space. But Keene will always be known best for his vaunted western bravado.

The Mynzeer Ensemble is a very special group. It's six members come from all over Los Angeles County. Self-described as "new-world music", the group's sound ranges from African to Indian to Jazz to Cuban and Western Classical. The Mynzeer Ensemble is lead by Miles Shrewsbery on hand drums and percussion. J.P. Maramba accompanies him on acoustic bass, along with Brad Colton on hand drums and percussion, Patrick Richey on hand drums and percussion, Michael Birnbryer on tenor sax and flute and Matt Zebley on C horn and alto clarinet. If you can imagine three guys jamming on hand drums, while two other guys blow melodic lines on horns and yet another guy playing thick bass notes, then you'll have some idea of what The Mynzeer Ensemble sounds like. But to really understand, you'll have to hear them play. So feed your curiosity and appetite for good music.
