Confronting Evil - In A (very different) Pastor's Study, Jan 2, 2011For starting off a new year, and a new segment to this show, it seemed appropriate that the first episode might deal with confronting evil. It's something we all have to face, and it's also something that some of us are sometimes accused of, if for no other reason than the fact that our spiritual path might not be in lock-step with someone else's.
First off, it's necessary to get some kind of a definition to what we mean by "evil". I recall one Supreme Court justice, when pressed to define pornography, said "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it." That's not the only term which defies definition, but I believe that we can do better in this case. As a beginning, and as one part of the definition, evil most often is a perversion of something which is good by its own nature.
With that part of the definition, we can see why evil often uses words of righteousness, protection or even love to get its way.
And then, what do we do? You won't find the answer to that in this video, but perhaps it will open the way to your own answers.
We said that this was going to be a segment which deals with issues, and there's a beginning!
Blessed Be!
